I know how King Guyenendra came to power, and that's about it. I also thought that massacre happened years ago. Why all the protests now?

Nepal is fighting Maoist insurgency for the past decade or so. The conflict has claimed 15000 lives so far. The King got rid of the govt and took direct control of the situation because the politicans have proved themselves inept in curbing the insurgents.

The Royal Nepalese Army is the strongest supporters of the King and so far been somewhat successful in containing the damage. However the situation has been complicated by the politicians and the Maoists now masquerading as prodemocrats protesting the King's takeover of power.

Every country in the world has abandoned Nepal in the worst time of its need. The King desperately needs the world's support in striking of this evil.
