Anyone following the Quicken change to yearly subscription fees?

I buy the new version every year or two for $50 or so on Ebay. As I understand it from internet gossip, Quicken Canada changed to a forced yearly subscription model as the test dive for what is planned for the US market. In Canada, it seems to be only provided as a direct upgrade only through Quicken at whatever price they set. No Ebay or Sam's Club/Costco pricing.

I'd do without before buying proprietary subscription software. I spent a good part of my life without software at all. I can manage the rest of my life without it.

I'll guess I'll just make due with my free* spreadsheet. BTW, with a good setup (I tweaked a really nice template I found for free) I think it's way better. So glad I am off Quicken (many years now).

*came with free licenses for Office 365 from my employer (5 licenses). So, not exactly free, but free enough for the time being.

I do not do subscriptions for most things and I have no need to subscribe to a product that while i use, has not been invested in in years. I don't sync my banks to quicken, i enter my receipts manually so i do not need a subscription.

Yeah I'm with you here about this. I'm on a fixed income and I can't afford subscription software.

I also do not like any kind of subscription software, such as how Adobe Acrobat Pro is now at the DC version and only a as a sub. For a home user, Acrobat Pro XI will be fine, but they do not sell it anymore. Only a business needs the Acrobat Pro DC version. Same with MS Office 365 ... waste of money for the normal user, who will do just fine with MS Office 2010 or later normal versions.

Adobe and Quickbooks have also adopted the monthly subscription nonsense.
