Anyone fly recently?

I've got some interviews this week and I want to just carry a laptop bag and a garment bag.

Anyone know if razors and shaving cream are allowed?

How does going through security with these items work? I have to use a plastic bag for the shaving cream right?

I flew for thanksgiving and am flying again next Saturday. You can bring a shaving razor onto the plane, but if the shaving cream is in a larger than 3oz container, you will not be allowed to carry it on. In addition to carrying on a small container of bathroom supplies (liquids/gels/creams), they must be in a small ziplock bag. It would probably be easiest (if the airline doesn't lose your bag) to check the garment bag with your bathroom stuff in it (since there are no restrictions on bathroom supplies in checked baggage) and carry the laptop bag onto the plane.

I dont want to check the garment bag in because if it gets lost I'm fvcked on the interview.

what if I have a shaving gel tube thats clear and originally had more than 3 ounces, but I've used most of it and only have a bit left?

When I flew over Thanksgiving, someone had their originally 5oz tube of toothpaste (had about a quarter of it left) confiscated. It probably depends on how anal security is going to be.

As for lost baggage, I would imagine it is more likely to happen on travel days that are very busy. For example: My bag was lost coming home over Thanksgiving (but that was because United got the genius idea to put it on the flight that was leaving 4 hours after mine, so I got it the next day. The way back was fine though (no lost luggage).

yeah I just have no room for error here 🙂

Every since the dumb-dumb admin took over i check bags. Yes, it takes longer, but the frustration factor is significantly reduced. I suggest you check your garment bag. Wait, if dress is important for said interview AND youre flying with Airtran do NOT check your bag.

don't risk it. buy the sample/travel size if possible, or else buy it at your final destination.

you can buy that crap when you get there
just take your clothes and electronics carry on

Easiest way, I like it. The piles of stuff that they make people throw away is amusing...my last flight home, someone I was traveling with had a diet xyience drink taken away since it was too big. 😛

I'm not checking a $1000 laptop and $1500 in camera gear.

Of course, my carry-on weighs a ton, and I'm seriously looking at an ultraportable for my next laptop. Unfortunately, my camera lenses are old school and just weigh a lot so I'm stuck with a certain amount of weight regardless. I'm flying tomorrow, and my shoulder already hurts...

I've been meaning to get a rolling carry-on bag, but I haven't found one that I like. I have a really nice Samsonite Transport Tote, and I'm too cheap to get an equivalent rolling replacement since I bought it for about 75% off. 😉

Heaviest carry-on ever? 65 pounds! I was severely constrained by weight on a trip from Paris back to Japan (checked bag was limited to 44 lbs), and they didn't check the carry-on weights. I had eight bottles of wine plus some other stuff that I crammed into my carry-on, and I gave myself back pain for awhile. All my wine made it, and I even still have one of the bottles after three years. I need to drink it already!
