Anyone get their degree and then go into a program through the Air Force or Marines to become an officer?

In before college.
now I want to join after college to be an officer.
However, I've heard that actually getting into the officer program is difficult.
Air Force here too.

One of my friends from college did that. He worked dead-end jobs for a couple of years, then joined the Marines recently (went through their officer training program). Another friend wanted to do it right out of college, but he wanted to be in the Army Rangers and there was some medical requirement prevented him from doing it (vision I think).

Recevied my EE degree and then went through OCS.
Became classified as a Weapons Officer for the F15 Eagle - involved with R&D w/ respect to upgrades to the Weapon systems.
Those going into the AF, Navy or Coast Guard have a reduce percentage of going over to Iraq.

I had several friends in college who did, but they all went through ROTC. I almost did after grad school, but there were no rated slots available so I turned down my slot at OCS.
If I have to go, I'll go.
I'm just looking at my options after I finish in May. Also trying to become a cop.
People keep telling me to go to Law School.. I don't have the money for that now, maybe through the Armed Forces I could get help.
My sister went to UCLA medical and then signed up for the Air Force and is currently in Guantanimo.
She was deployed three times to Iraq spent a total of 13 months and counting at Guantanamo (not consecutively, she was sent several times over the last couple of years for a few weeks at a time) But as a doctor, Air Force or otherwise, I think it is different experience for her, since she doesn't serve in combat, but in the triage or at the main hospital.
She also has the choice of two body guards or carrying her own firearm plus a body guard. She opted for two body guards. In any case, she re-enlisted and is saying that she will re-enlist when the option comes up again.

its not always necessarily the easiest to get into the Officer school when your freshly enlisted. it's very possible though.
I chose the other method and went with ROTC. There have been quite a few prior service members who went through their 4 years as enlisted and then came to school to get their degree and while they are at it do ROTC and become an officer. And it's not necessarily always the same branch they previously were in.
Regardless, I don't know how the AirForce or Marines work, but for the US Army I've heard quite a bit that, depending on your branch choice (as in armor, infantry, MP, quartermaster, etc), that it can be difficult to be permitted entry into OCS (officer candidate school)

ROTC would be the way to go if you're currently in college. I'm in AFROTC at UIUC right now.

aren't they sending in most of the Air Force Officers into Iraq?
I've even heard talk of "Air Force officers are given mine duty". Of course that was probably marines poking fun, but I'm sure there is half truth to that.
I didn't say I believe it. I said there has to be some truth to it. Such as Air Force Officers are given crap duty inside Iraq. Not that they really go around doing mine sweeping.

If you're not a pilot, AVOID the Air Force. You'll be a total second class citizen. Higher promotions are assigned to pilots by a HUGE margn.
If you choose to be a Marine, you'll be deployed around the world to high risk areas (they're the Marines!!). You'll either end up dead or divorced (highest divorce rate of all the branches).
Morale in the armed forces are at a current low due to the stupid war in Iraq. When there is no war, officers are playing droll politics to advance their career--which is a downer.
This isn't the fifties when a military career was a decent choice. You can do much better things with your life especially choices where you won't be a risk of dying. (My military academy friends HATE their jobs and can't wait to FINISH their obligation to do something different)

if the OP wants to join the military, it is his life and is ultimately responsible for what he does.
and the whole dead/divorce bit? damn your an idiot. The current casualty to non casualty rate is STILL among the lowest of any war. don't try and exaggerate your claims to instill fear in the guy.
the military is in need of troops. don't try and help make the situation any worse by scaring away those who are interested.
and believe me, morale really isn't all that down. don't let the media fool your mind. speak to actual soldiers, both those who have and have not been deployed on a tour. I'm ready to have my schooling be done already and actually get on with my Army career. I'm psyched for that day actually. Well hell, I get basically a year of training under full O-1 pay. And then, by then I wouldn't be surprised if action starts up somewhere else, and I'm not at all fearing deployment, I readily expect it and it hasn't made me at all concerned.
Some people sign up for the money itself, and that's expected in a military that actively hands out so many bonuses just to fill recruitment slots. However, I was one that knew exactly what signing up meant and it wasn't really for money. The money is a nice bonus, however.
I wonder if they'd let me do the job I wanted or just put me in the job they think I'd be best at - almost certainly intelligence or something, since I did compsci, and know a bit about security and communication systems and such... I think I'd just want to be a soldier/marine if I joined... and even then I don't think I approve of the whole Iraq thing...
