after working for two years at paul j. ford & company (designing communications towers) i was finally laid off. it sucks big time to be unemployed. i am having a heck of a time trying to find work as a civil engineer. i have applied to numerous places in the columbus, ohio area but no luck so far. i am probably going to have to relocate eventually. just wondering if anyone else was feeling the effects of a sour economy.

I got dumped after 4+ years at my office. Oh well, I wasn't planning on making that place my career anyway. I know what you mean about jobs being scarce. I look around online and all the places I see that are out of state (I'm in Michigan) won't pay relocation, so they specify local candidates only. I'm a mechanical designer/drafter, but the tech sector in SE Michigan has dried up. I don't think it will pick up again until next year.

I'm enrolled in college now so I'm looking for something that will pay the bills. I switched to the IT program because I like it better, but I probably won't find anything around here for a while. The worst part is having to go over my monthly expenses and start making cuts to survive. I only get to go out one weekend a month now. 🙁

Good luck, and hang in there!

Only people I know who are doing well are employed by the government or a huge corporation... most small and medium size businesses are hurting.
