A friend has a Wascomat W124 washing machine (laundromat) that refuses to work properly. The motor used for the extraction cycle spins up fine, but the machine seems to have trouble starting up by itself for the normal wash cycle. That motor seems to get moving after some help, pushing the inner drum by hand, but otherwise it fails to catch momentum and spin independently.

He sent in the motor for repair but after receiving it back, the motor isn't the problem. He's puzzled as to what is, but he thinks the motor isn't "switching correctly."

Anyone work with these machines?

Is there a way to obtain a service manual for it? I know that washing machines have a transmission of sorts...belts and diff/diameter pulleys and such. Maybe it's not switching gears or something?

If it is belts and pullies, I'll bet that one of the belts is old and slippery and not catching the pully well.

Hi there
what your dealing with here , is that the w124 is belt drivin , and more than likely your belt is slipping and need to be either tighten or replace by a new one , other possibility , is that the bearing is turning into the housing , wich mean that under this condition the drum would make a very loud noise !... FYI i also own a laundromat with 30 washing machine , all wascomat and i do all my repair and maintenance , hope this will help you

Not only that, but people will join the forum just to answer these unusual questions...
That has to be the best thing. Not long ago a guy who is an expert in soundproofing joined just to set people straight about it.
