Anyone familiar with USB hubs?

Hi all,

I like Adaptec's XHUB2 but unfortunately I found out the other day that they're phasing it out. And I checked like 30 vendors online and nobody has them in stock anymore. Does anybody know of another brand USB2.0 2-port hubs that look very similar to Adaptec's? All I've been able to find is some non-branded USB 1.1 hub. I've checked Belkin & Kensington (that's the only major brands I know) but had no luck. :frown:

Never used a 2-port hub. Seems like a waste. I use Belkin 7-porters at present. Have an Adaptec AUH-4100, 4 port, w/small 5VDC power module onhte shelf. It works fine. I use it for travel because it is so small.

HUB

I think I got it at Circuit City a while back. Your XHUB is not powered, so it would not work for an external HDD very well.

If it were up to me, I'd go with the 7-port also. But this is for work. And you know how bosses are. "I DON'T WANT PROBLEMS, I WANT SOLUTIONS!!" I found out that the XHUB2's we get go to some guy in electronics department, then from there I dunno what he does with it. Can't be just for the ports themselves, that wouldn't make sense to buy 2-port hubs... *sigh* I hate work :disgust:

7 ports are sweet. But - I checked the specs and it does not list a a/c power module. Does it come with one?

I'm pretty sure the 7 port comes with an AC adapter... god forbid you try to run 7 things off the bus, I'd be scared to even try that. But no, the 2-port we were using was just bus powered, no external power. Which makes me even more confused as to what we really use it for.

A bus powered hub is OK for mice, flash memory, and connecting to externally powered devices such as digital cameras, hard drives, scanners, printers, etc.

I can't imagine a 7-port hub w/o its own power. Let us all know how it works out.

It's cool but borderline useless - no power module for it.

I've bought several APC 7-port USB hubs from Walmart, and have had no problems with them. I frequently connect USB Flash Drives, External Hard drives, and Barcode readers to them.
