I've just picked up some of these textbooks as I plan on teaching myself the language and these seemed to be the most widely used and well received from what I've heard.

Just a few questions for anyone who's had experience with these texts, do the first few books (Beginning 1 and 2) go deeper than just the alphabet and basic vocabulary? I already have a good grasp on reading and writing Hangul so I'd rather not waste time and money on a book that won't delve into things like sentence structure and verb conjugation. Since I'm teaching myself I really wanna focus on the mechanics of the language since I can glean information like 'An Introduction to Korean Culture' and simple vocabulary from other sources for free.

What about the workbooks? I've read that there aren't even answer keys provided for review questions in the workbooks and even the texts themselves, so should I just pass on these? They cost almost as much as the textbooks, and since I won't be in a classroom environment I don't see much value in having them. Is there anything of importance I'd be missing out on by not picking them up, or are they simply for further review of material already found in the texts?

I've ordered all the books from Beginning 1 through Advanced Intermediate 1 (excluding the workbooks), but it seems like a number of universities don't even go past the Intermediate II text. Has anyone run through the whole series? I'm not sure what the chances are that anyone here has actually had personal experience with these books, but if you have I'd value your input.
