Anyone familiar with Texas Law? Got a quick MIP question.

About 3 years ago I got busted for having a beer. I was charged with minor in possession of alcohol. I plead no contest, received 8 hours of community service, attended an alcohol awareness class, paid the court fees, and had 6 months probation. I recently graduated and am filling out job applications, and many of them ask about my criminal history. Will the MIP still be on my record? Do I need to list it on the application? Any ideas how bad it will hurt when applying for jobs?

Yup, it never hurts to be honest. It won't necessarily disqualify you from getting the job.

isn't that just a misdemeaner?
Good point - if the app just asks for felony convictions, then don't you dare list it! :)

Just list it....it will demonstrate your honesty. Anyone reviewing your resume that would disqualify you for a MIP would be a hypocrite.

You were nevet convicted of it... so I don't think you were found guilty of an MIP, right?

Unless you were under 18 at the time or worked out a deal with the DA so that it went off your record after you completed community service and probation, it will be on your record for the rest of your life. List it if so.

some applications want to know everything, including tickets (i.e., a job that has a security clearance requirement). Most just want to know if your a convicted felon. Read the app and list to what ever detail it is requesting. If you are not sure, call the HR person and ask if you should list it or not. My guess is that since you are talking about a misdemeaner, you will not be required to list it.

HR people don't want irrelevent details. It just makes their job of sorting/screening applications harder.

It does not need to be on there. You pleaded no contest and it is a misdemeanor.
