I'm doing my taxes right now and I'm running into the problem that my state taxes from the Marines were paid to maryland... not virginia where I am a resident. Who do I need to call/what website do I have to go to in order to get my money from that back? Turbotax's online site doesn't recognize my MD income tax when doing my Virginia taxes (obviously) but it's $200 I want to get back from whoever has it.

Couldn't have done it without you...
For your information, I was stationed in Camp Lejune up until just recently and didn't have time to file. Once I got back here I had to call up my former place of work and request a new W-2.

Can anyone actually help me and not just crap in my thread?

It cracked me up that psydancerqt tried to give you a smart-ass answer but didn't even get the irs site correct.

Anyway, I think you should check with Maryland. They have your money and will have to refund it. You should be able to file your taxes by the deadline with Virginia and with the IRS, then pursue getting your $200 back from Maryland. It's probably going to take a while.

Well I already finished filing federal and VA state taxes ($1000 back, SWEET!) so I'm just pursuing the state of MD now.

Ok... I found out that I need to file a form 505 (MD nonresident tax return)

I found a bunch of the raw forms, now I'm just looking for a simplified online form. Worst case, I need to go through and manually put in the numbers into that monster of a form. Ugh. Oh well.

wow. first time i've been called an ass. dont know what to think of it...

why did the marines send your money to maryland? who does the taxes for the marines? i'd call whoever sent your money to the wrong place. i agree with kranky to get your money that was wrongly paid to maryland after your virginia stuff is done. -you already did that, sounds like you are finding it out faster than anyone else-

that website is to help people when doing taxes. i know it's not the irs website... i wasnt trying to be a smart ass. who doesnt know that www.irs.gov is the treasury website? sorry for thinking irs.com would help.. it does say "tax questions" as an option...

They sent my money to MD because my old home of residence was MD, at my parents house. When my recruiter filled out my stuff that's what he put as my current home of residence, even though I said it was in VA.

Sounds like you're going the right direction...but then again, taxes sometimes doesn't make sense.

Damn right they don't... I'm in the process of filling out the actual forms (couldn't find any simplified means) and the majority of this stuff is completely not understandable
