Anyone Familiar with some of the newer 19" Wide Screens Floating Around?

Specifically looking at three different models.

The Acer 1916 WS (Having a heck of a time finding a US price on this one)

The AG Neovo CW-19 Black

The Viewsonic VA1912wb

All three look nice and honestly the price is very good considering its a widescreen. My main issue is low cash and I would like to have another LCD and honestly after having my 2005 FPW I prefer wide screen. Just not sure how nice these are overall and was wondering if anyone had seen any or had any thoughts on their quality?

Also is 1440 x 900 a 16:9 resolution or 16:10?

Thanks up front for any advice :)

1440 / 900 = 1.6
16 / 10 = 1.6

1440x900 is a 16:10 aspect ratio. I guess personally I'd get the ViewSonic.

Yeah they each seem nice just not sure dvi is really that worth it on a 19". I would guess they honestly use the same panel based on previous looks at wide screens and such but am honestly not sure. I would be saving about $75 with the AG but have never even heard of the company so support and quality would be a concern as the company is a unknown to me.

The Viewsonic would of course be the best choice but again it is also the most expensive. Yep I am having to unfortunatly be as cheap as possible, on a extremly tight budget. But I dont want to end up sacrificing quality. (As in getting dead pixels, no service, etc). So if I have to I will just save a bit longer to pick up the monitor. I am also in the market for a new video card so thats one of the reasons cash is so tight. (Either a X1800XL or a 7800GT to replace my X800XL).

Just wish someone had one of these and could comment on it from first hand experience. But thanks for all the advice and thanks xtknight for reminding me how to tell what ratio a screen is.

I don't own any of those monitors, but based on my own experience with the difference between VGA and DVI, and can definitely recommend the Viewsonic, soley because it is the only one with DVI. Using VGA on my Samsung 730B (17" 1280 x 1024 LCD), colors are washed out, different colors are all displayed as the same color, and text is difficult to read against darker colors. With DVI, colors are shart and pronounced, there is much more color and subtleties are actually visible, and text is crystal clear. It's a WORLD of difference.

As always, the difference between VGA and DVI varies with different model monitors, but of course getting a larger screen would only increase the problems with VGA.

Just my two cents.

Have to agree with Josh, if you're gettin' an LCD, DVI is a must. You'll be hard pressed to get perfect geometry, crisp colors and razor sharp text without it.

ever thought that your video card could be part of the problem? I've compared the VGA and DVI outs on a Viewsonic 17" LCD (1280x1024) driven by a 9600XT and there was not a single discernable difference (not a single thing, nada ;)) that myself or the various people i asked could see (i was setting the computer up for some friends)...

Yeah I am somewhat familiar with the DVI vs VGA comparison as I had a 2005 FPW (Wish I still did in many ways but I traded it for something I do enjoy as much, my lovely 200" Widescreen HDTV :p) and I tried it with both. Main difference was simplicity it appeared. The DVI required absolutly no setup whatsoever where as I did have to tweak the VGA settings a bit.

Oh and of course I would prefer DVI but the problem is money. I is po. (Cant even afford the extra o and the r). And I am working hard to squeeze out as much as I can towards a complete pc upgrade soon. Long story short my situiation puts me in and out of bed alot, moving a heavy 19" monitor and a full size case is not a easy feat. So I am trying to find a way to return to a wonderful, light, easy to use and move LCD as well as a XPC. I thought about the Qpack but from reviews it seems its quite a bit larger than it appears in the pics at newegg but thats another discussion. But I have to do this with as small an investment as possible :)

But please keep all the great advice coming, I am still hoping to find someone who actually is using or has seen one of these in person. Honestly I would love to go with a 2005 FPW again. For so many reasons not the least of which Dells return policy for the first 25 days is simply amazing. So get dead pixels nope, send it back, got problems, nope send it back. Nothing like dealing with Neweggs 7 dead pixels minimum junk.

Why are you trying to buy a 7800gt or x1800xl OP..........? A 7900gt is significantly cheaper or an x1800xt 256mb. Heck if your looking at 7800gt prices you might as well add 40 bucks and get an x1900xt :Q
