Anyone familiar with Panasonic Digital cameras, specifically the Lumix LC20?

I am looking at getting a basic digital camera. I was planning on getting the Canon Powershot A40. I just recetly saw a Panasonic Lumix LC20. It is in the same price range and has similar features. The salesman was saying the lens on the Panasonic is very good. It's a Leica Vario Elmarit??
I don't know if that's good or what??
Any ideas??

Leica is a renowned German lens manufacturer. The lens is good, some other things cause the camera to be more average.
I got the A40 but for me the A40 was cheaper, I saw a recent thread where the LC20 was cheaper. Compare the pros and cons of each and go with the one that suits you better.
