Our boat has a 1990 175hp Johnson motor.
Lately we have been having this problem, where neither the power tilt nor the starter will work.
When I turn the key to start the motor, I get nothing, meaning that the starter is not even engaging. Usually once every 5-10 minutes I can get the motor to start.
The power tilt has also become an issue, where it will not work some of the time. However, the power tilt works about 95% of the time, much less freuqently than the motor fails to engage.
I believe the problem is related to the electrical system, and the boat has two brand new batteries this year.
Is there some type of central electrical control unit inside the motor?
I figured it might be a long shot, but I thought someone here might be familiar with outboard motor repair.
TIA!
