I need it as a pre-req for a grad program I am applying to and with my life the way it is, an online course would be ideal.

I've taken several now, and the at-your-own pace ones are the best assuming that you can push yourself to do the work. A traditional 16 week class I found to be easy to take online.

Although currently I'm taking two 8-week online courses and they require quite a bit of work which has been behind pace.

I've taken one with Central Texas College through the Army, and three now through the Community College that I'm attending, College of Dupage.

The nice thing, at least about my community college classes, is that everyone pays resident rates + a small internet fee. So you can potentially find any another school that transfers and find cheaper tuition.

How long does it take to go through an online course? If it is reasonably quick I'd repeat organic chem as a refresher (I am 15 years out of school)

One of my current classes is broken down into 25 assignments and 5 tests. Each "assignment" is reading 30 pgs of a book and about 1-2 pages of typing.

I could probably spend about 40-50 hours total to finish the class, which isn't much at all.

My last class was 7 units with 100 pages of reading, 1 test, and two papers.

If you can, find out the teacher and email them because it really depends on the teacher.

Online classes are self taught classes really. If you are not able to read on your own and take your own notes from the book you won't do well.

Online courses from community college and 4 year ones usually run the length of the session. whether its quarter or semester.

Anyhow you should not find any science courses beyond the basic stuff being offered on line from a school who's credit will be accepted. Look at your requirements but chances are most grad programs require you take ochem and biochem with component anyhow.

get up with local college/university/community college and take something with them. the work will all depend on the teacher. i had an intro to computers that was hell because this guy was hardcore picky about everything.

Agreed: online courses are self taught classes. That said, I almost think that there's a CLEP exam for biochemistry. I'm not 100% certain though. If there is, and you can get one of those review booklets for it, you can save a small fortune.

I need a little bit of structure. A textbook and a CLEP exam will not work for me.

then an online course will not work for you. there's no CLEP exam anyhow for biochem or ochem. those two subjects go beyond general stuff.

Why don't you tell us what grad program you will be apply to? It helps to know. If its health related one I can pretty much assure you they won't take science courses done online unless you happen already have already completed those course years before from community college or university. But even then its up in the air.

I am applying to the Anesthesiologist Assistant programs at Emory and Nova Southeastern as well as a few PA-C programs notably Cornell. Biochem is for the AA and I will need microbiology for Cornell as well.

I took an accounting class online from a local CC. I didn't like taking it online. I needed the class room experience. My wife took some social science(s) classes online and she loved it.

Were those "at your own pace" courses or were they for a set time period?

Do you need the lab portion as well? You may have some difficulty with on-line sciences because of the lab requirement. Many schools simply don't offer them because of that.

Even if you're not planning on going to a health program, you might want to do a search at studentdoctor.net forums because it is a requirement for a few med schools and I know your exact question has been asked many times before.

I had to complete homework/tests by a certain date (normally weekly). I think my wife's course wasn't like that. I think she had X weeks to complete X papers/assignments, but she couldn't complete it under the minimum number of weeks.

Anyone else know of any online schools that might offer biochem and/or microbiology?
