Im behind a router, trying to play ESPN 2k5 online. The other guy is behind a router as well. (My router is linksys) Apparently I have to forward 2 ports so that we can connect with each other, but when I try to do it, it isn't working properly.

I *think* that I need to turn off enabling of DHCP on my ps2 for it to work properly, but Im not really sure. I would have posted this in the networking thread, but I figured someone in OT is familiar with PS2 gaming as well.

Any help would be appreciated guys, and Mods if you wanna move my thread feel free to (like I need to give ya permission :) )

I did a quick google search for "ESPN 2k5 online +port +forwarding" and found this link

Basically, it looks like you need to either

a) put the PS2 in your networks DMZ (you'll need to know it's IP address for this)

or

b) forward incoming UDP port 3658 traffic from the linksys to the PS2 (again, you'll need to know the PS2's IP address to do this)

If you're not sure how to do either of these, open a browser and enter "192.168.1.1" as the url. When prompted for a userid/password, leave the userid blank and enter "admin" as the password. (After this step, things may look different than what I'm describing because of the model # of your router and the firmware version on it but they should be close enough that you can figure it out).

Putting the PS2 in your network's DMZ is probably the easiest thing to do. On my router, I click on "Applications & Gaming" and then click on "DMZ". After that simply click on "Enable DMZ" and enter the PS2's IP address in the box.

To forward ONLY the ports you want to the PS2, click on "Applications & Gaming" and fill out the little port forwarding chart. IN this case the starting and ending port will be 3658 with the protocol set to UDP. Enter the IP address of the PS2 box and click the "enable" checkbox to activate the rule.

I hope this helps.

Thats exactly what I tried, problem is I don't know my ps2 IP address. I have it set up to be determined automatically. Should I change that and just pick one?

sure.
or you could look at your DHCP status and get the IP it assigned to it

Yeah, should be able to click the DHCP tab and then view the DHCP table and it should give you a list. I also have a linksys router.

On mine, I click "Status", "Local Network" and then click on the "DHCP Clients Table" button. You'll probably have two entries. The first one is proabably your PC (assuming you have your PC using DHCP). The second one is the one you probably want.
