To even claim Milwaukee's cultural institutions/sights are on par (or close) with Chicago is outright delusional. Not to mention it is not at all convenient for the OP's purposes.

Downtown is perfectly safe. Just ignore any panhandlers (there really aren't many) you'll be fine.

This x1000. I'm sorry, Milwaukee is okay but not even in the same league.

Nope, you won't need a car. Theres TONS of food options, so if you are tasting something specific, let us know.

Chicago has some fantastic museums! I would check out The Field Museum and then the Science And Industry museum. If you're into art The Art Institute of Chicago is the place to go. While you're there do check out Portillo's! Some of the best Italian beefs and Chicago hot dogs I have ever had! But there are many good eats there, you can't go wrong. They feed you right in Chicago. Try a Chicago pizza!

I was born in Arlington Heights and have family in Chicago. I haven't been there in seven years.

U2 is a good band. I have the War and Joshua Tree albums. Use to listen to Bloody Sunday and New Years Day all the time while playing Goldeneye with my Bro on the N64.

Did you hear Bono messed his arm up?

THese are good recs. Science and Industry is on the other side of town, though (Hyde Park), so you'd have to train + bus, or cab it to get there. It's pretty good though. It's mostly aimed at kids, but it's pretty good for "old kids" as well.

The Art Institute is world class. Tough to pass it up when you are in town.

Shedd Aquarium is also in that area, so you could Art Institute/Shedd/Natural History/Millenium Park all in one rather busy day, without walking too far.

If I were you I would fly to MILWAUKEE, Mitchell Airport and take the train to the concert. We have a train from Milwaukee to Chicago.

I live in Milwaukee and it is a much much safer city than Chicago. We have a nice casino close to downtown Milwaukee that you can go to for entertainment/gambling.

My brother saw U2 in Los Angeles in 1987, he said it was the best concert he was ever at except for Pink Floyd.

This sounds like a horrible idea. The actual dangerous parts of CHicago are so far away from where any tourist would ever be, that it might as well be in Milwaukee.

Milwaukee...and casino? seriously?

Thanks, this is all great info. I feel much better about the trip, having some first-hand knowledge to work with. I will make sure to get some deep dish pizza, and maybe a real Chicago dog when I am out there. Suggestions for food would be cool as well.

The Wiener Circle!
