Anyone familiar with Bonsai trees?

So my Dad's birthday is coming up and I'd like to get him a bonsai tree. He lived in Japan for a couple years and used to have one ages ago. I actually found some on ProFlowers:

I had one for a while, fun at first, then after a few weeks it got infested with bugs, tiny tiny bugs all over it.... sortof lost the interest then and in the end it died

Wow this one looks like the plant from that Mario game that you could throw at bad guys

I had one but it died after about 2 years when it got cold out and I had it in the window sill.

edit: highly recommended just make sure to read up on care.

Your best bet is to buy a pot and soil and then find a plant near your/his home that can be dwarfed.

Don't buy him one unless he wants it and he has a green thumb. Most varieties are not for the novice - hard to grow.
