anyone familiar with Associated Press and how it works?

There is an article I found online that is originally published on the Los Angeles Times website.
I searched through the microfilms in my library and cannot find that article. I also tried ProQuest and it didn't work. However, when I read the article closely, it is written by an Associated Press writer; I then search AP's site and found the article I wanted, but it is online only and I can't obtain a "newspaper / printed" version.

does this mean if an article is written by an AP writer, it doesn't have to be published on the newspaper?

The AP supplies stories and photos to publishers. It's up to the newspapers to decide if they print them or not.

It might have been printed in a newspaper but I don't know how you can find out. It could have been in any of the many, many newspapers which subscribe to the AP service.

Maybe try searching on news.google.com, or if your library has online access to an online news database, try that.
