He is right Illinois roads suck compared to any other state I been to with the exception of Indiana.

You must not have been to many states. I just drove from Chicago to LA this last week, and there were some *awful* roads along the way. IL roads are definately very well maintained.

I do have to say though, New Mexico has *the best* roads in the nation, possibly the world. Every road we were on seemed like it was brand new... clean as a whistle.. had a nice reddish tint, fresh paint, no litter... it was a dream. It really surprises me how *clean* they all were, especially in Albuquerque... there was literally NO dirt anywhere.... the one big interchange on the west side of the city was like some sort of utopian society's idea of what roads should be like.

If you want to know what a good road is come to Wisconsin

I have heard of fines more than $1000 for going through the i-pass lanes without one. Now that the tolls went up they are cracking down

I just moved out of Illinois after living there for 42 years. Illinois roads are about average. Drove from Illinois to Washington state (current residence), and encountered roads both better and worse than Illinois along the way. The roads in WA, at least the state highways are worse than IL in my opinion.

It is the cost of the toll, plus a $20 fine. My ipass failed one day and I got a letter in the mail with the photo of the back of my car, the date, etc. I called and they waived the fee since I have ipass. However, had I not had ipass, it would have been the toll, plus $20.
Just pay the fine if/when you get the letter.

I went through the Gurnee Toll, and my iPass didn't read. I got a fine, also, but they dropped it when I called in and gave them my account info. They just deducted the toll from my account.

This morning, Madcow started raving about I-Pass and how it's violating our privacy. He does have a point though. IL is doubling their regular toll prices (but not I-Pass prices), so people will switch from coins to having a microchip in their cars. Technically, that's not a big deal, but, according to Madcow, I-Pass toll records have been successfully used in divorce cases to show that the cheating spouses have exited at his/her girlfriend/boyfriends place. Now, don't get me wrong, cheating spouses are assholes who deserves whatever that come to them, but this is a violation of our privacy.

Think about what's next. Instead of I-Pass, next comes GPS. No more toll booths and you get charged exactly how much you use the tollway, instead of a flat fee every 10 miles. So you save money. And, to encourage GPS use, I-Pass prices are doubled. Sounds good? But now the government knows exactly where you are.

on Jan. 2nd i accidently was in the wrong lane going through the tollbooth and didn't pay the toll.
it was the easy pass lane or whatever it's called, and i was supposed to go through the automatic lane.
so i'm assuming that my picture was taken and i'll be fined.
i'm curious how much it is?

If you really feel bad or want to avoid hassle, go by an unmanned toll booth and get the phone number (off the website even!) and give them a call. Tell them what happened and where and that you want to pay the toll. They should help you out.
