Had to run out and pickup a new laptop today, 7 came pre-installed. Was just going to copy a file over from my desktop (Currently Vista 64 Home Premium - have my upgrade disc, just don't have time right now) to my laptop (Windows 7). So I go ahead and make an account for myself on my laptop, share a folder, give my Vista machine's account r/w, browse to the folder on the Vista machine and drag and drop. File copies just fine, speed is ok, etc. but the Vista machine completely froze during the entire 500 mb transfer. Just got the Vista spinning circle. Couldn't click on the desktop, couldn't click on the start button, even highlighted a text document on my desktop and hit enter.. wouldn't open. As soon as the file transfer finished, the Vista machine "caught up" and everything I had tried to do during the transfer happened.
Fairly bizarre, no? I can't for the life of me figure out why transferring a file over a network from a Vista machine to a 7 machine would cause the Vista machine to hang during the transfer.
