Anyone experience Windows XP slowing down after a period of time?

I have heard people talking about how after a few months of usage XP performance degrades to a horriable crawl until they reinstall XP...

Anyone know anything about this?

I've had mine for about 6 months now and it seems to run just like it did when I first installed it. To be honest, I think this is the only OS that has ever worked this well for me.

I've had XP since it came out, and it has been running great since then. With every other OS i've had I felt the need to format and re-install every month or so, I don't get that feeling with XP.

Make sure you have 512MB of RAM, XP sucks without it.

Everyone that runs XP started on the same foot (i.e the same install). The choices people make after that start directly effect the performance of the OS/system

Some people make wise choices

Other people......choose poorly.

I've had problems with xp slowing down to the point where I have reinstalled it. I was very surprised after re-installing how fast it is when freshly installed. Of course it's still no match for windows 2000 which is currently the fastest OS M$ has put out.

Let it be known this is so true! But I sometimes make some bad choices so I ushally install every 6 months as a matter of fact I usshally Have the same Os installed to a different partition so when I feel bored, I just install some apps on it so when it is time to move to a new Os It is already! Or you could just ghost it and reinstall like every day! ;)

I think there was a problem with XP when Explorer suddenly gobbles up all your resources and CPU speed.

I have been running xp for appx 6 mos with no problems. I am very carefull when installing apps as to what they put in the startup folder / registry run folder / prefetch folder. Try making an image when you get xp running the way you want it, that way you won't have to go through a windows re-nstall.
