I just applied there. Seemed like a pretty decent place... nicer than Office Max.
Anyone ever worked there before? How was it?

Wife works there

Must say it has been a VERY good to her. She gets annual and sick leave plus affordable dental and vision. And very very very affordable health insurance. How affordable? I work for the State of MO and her insurance through the Depot is cheaper for her than if I enrolled her through my employer. Living in Springfield MO there are not a lot of high paying jobs because of all the colleges, let alone for those without a college degree like the wife. She started Depot at a higher than average wage and is now an hourly manager making pretty good money.

If you interview at Depot ask them about a position in Tech, Copy Center, or Furniture. Those are positions outside the somewhat vanilla CSR (although not by much).

I've worked at a Depot store. It was one of the more enjoyable jobs I've had. Most of the people I worked with had come from an OMax store down the road, and they thought it ws much better than working there. For the most part, all the managers I worked with were cool, and like Ninepepper said, they take care of employees with a good (and cheap) benefits plan. And no high-pressure sales tactics (like Worst Buy and their PSPs.)

One thing, if you plan on starting soon, expect to be busy at work, since Back-to-School season is coming up. Lots of frantic kids and parents running around looking for supplies.

Thanks for the replies... I was planning on starting very soon. Part time only since I'll be working during school. I hope I can work in the tech department, but I'll probably take anything.

Like others have said, July-September is back to school - this is like Christmas at Best Buy.

I worked for Office Max for 2.5 years, worked 3 BTS there and at Staples for 1.5 years - just 1 BTS there. Never worked at Depot but it should be similar since they're both office supply stores. Try to get into the Copy Center - that is without a doubt, the easiest job there. You usually have customer jobs to fill and run so you're not stuck doing bullsh!t busy work like stocking the pen aisle or something lame like that.

For the most part - it's like any other retail job - just stock stuff, help customers, zone up at the end of the night, etc. The thing that will either make or break your experience is the managers - either they'll be great and kind and caring, or they'll be dicks in one way or another.

Either way - it's not the most glamorous job but hey, it helped put me through college.
