At least a Blockbuster starting pay was min wage, but there was a range the store manager could choose from depending on how the interview went. I never knew anyone at BB that started at min wage. I had a couple friends who worked at a Hollywood video and, on average, BB seemed to pay more. But pay is, in part, up to the store manager so it really depends on that person and how well you interview.
I worked at two BB in different parts of the city and the worst part about working there the customers (although working on the rich, snoby side of town sucked big-time, but working in blue-collar, borderline ghetto part of town was usually better). Just be prepared to get yelled at by lazy, forgetful, and/or rude morons on a near daily basis. These people probably can't even remember what they ate 3 days ago but by god they know they turned in Blade II at exactly 11:03 am when they dropped it 2 months ago.
IMO It is a safe assumption to make that 9 times out of 10 when a movie shows up as being "late" it's the customers fault. On a regular basis movies from the stores I worked at would get returned to other Blockbusters, Hollywood video, Movie Gallery, the local mom & pop movie stores, local grocery stores that rented movies, the public library, or get dropped off at our store but empty. A couple of years ago I had a customer drop off two movies (VHS) that belonged to a local grocery store. But the kicker is both
clear movie boxes were empty.
Anyway... doing the store inventories (scanning all the product) sounds worse than it is. It only takes 2 or 3 hours depending on the size of the store.
