my current gig has gone through yet aNother round of layoffs and IT was hit hard again (in the hundreds over 2 rounds). my team's size, for example, has gone from 8 to 3 over the last 12 months.

there's been a surge of outsourcing from one of the big outsourcing companies...we haven't had a contractor enter our team yet but my buddy on another team said that he has to hand over all his responsibilities to them so that he (buddy) can work on "new projects."

anyone have experience with this? does my long term outlook seem bleak even though i bust my butt and get good reviews? i'm interested to see how you responded...

job market stinks right now but i'm touching up the resume here n' there. what i'm hoping for is that the cuts end and they at least attempt to offer employees some reasonable growth (career and $ wise) opportunities.

The type of work I do could never be outsourced. You see, in my line of work, discretion is highly valued. Outsourcing would not only expose my clients to the world, but it would also be a clear conflict of interest for the outsourcing companies. How can you send someone out to kill their own family? Impossible, these kinds of things can only be done by professionals. Innocents killing innocents, how ridiculous. I remember once, one of my clients decided to 'go cheap' and hire some poor folk from a far away village. Boy, what a disaster that turned out to be. First of all, they had no idea how to properly terrorize the local population, I mean, they were basically running around and shooting up into the air! Second, they had no idea how to break the will of the people. They were simply too weak to do what is necessary to slaughter and subjugate this village. In the end, we just had to go in there and wipe out everyone and everything. This was done to save our reputation as well as that of the client. If word got out, we'd never hear the end of it.

if you're hiring, i'd like to send you my resume. i've never murdered anyone, but i do have 11 years in the cable business.

OP, tough situation. i'd get myself in job-hunting form. at best, you'll be tied to some temp a-hole that either weighs you down or cuts your throat. good luck.
