Anyone ever vacation in Puerto Rico?

Just curious as to how it compares with other Caribbean island vacation spots.

hotels.. food.. prices.. beachs.. tourist stuff..all those things.

Seems to be pretty spendy...we've been considering it as well, but prices there don't seem to be much cheaper (at least in hotels/resorts) than Hawaii. We're Starwood owners, and they have a couple of nice places in P.R., and perusing the menus, I was surprised at how pricy the food was. I imagine the local economy is somewhat cheaper, but it IS still an island, and much has to be brought in via ship.

Im american (as in german/danish) but was born in PR and lived there, and have also returned to "vacation" there alot. Id be glad to answer any questions and even suggest various places to visit and see that wont kill your budget.

PR is a beautiful place, ESPECIALLY if you can get out of the big city and see some of the island.

Anyways, PM me if youre interested.

I've been there. Didn't like it very much. The best part is the rainforest area. The beachs suck.

BY FAR it is a better idea to go to other locales in the caribbean. I would recommend the Vigrin Islands (particularly the BVI, but the US too is ok).

I was there about 6 yrs ago, found the place to be dirty and people to be rude. Interesting difference from the year before when I went to Jamaica. In Jamaica, everyone is trying to get your money, but they are willing to work for it. In PR you cannot get anyone to do anything even IF your paying well. Rain Forrest was pretty cool, also went to on a Catamaran trip to some small island that we were told Marriah Carrey had done a music video on. That was cool, and an older guy who went on the tour found a Diamond Ring with a HUGE Rock on it, in the sand. Given the choice, I would never return to PR.

wow...looks like im going to rethink this idea 🙁

I was hoping to to do something a little more then just the touristy type thing.

I kind of wanted to stay away from the typical Cruise or Aruba, DR, Jamaica vacation.

Is there a big difference between the US and British Virgin Islands?

What you need is a Bahamavention

There is a difference, and I'm not going to tell you which is more suited for YOU, but I personally prefer the BVI by far.

The U.S. Islands are much more developed. They have big hotels, lots of shops, lots of people, more tourism, etc.

The BVI are more underdeveloped, smaller places, lots of renting houses and cabins and such (though they have resorts, they are more resorty and less hotely).

I would recommend going to Virgin Gorda in the BVI and staying near the baths. Then you can take sailing day trips to other islands if you feel like it. their is also a boat that goes to and from St. Thomas, so you can visit there if you want.

But there is little better this side of Bora Bora than the beach and walk at the Baths.
