Anyone ever used Squaretrade for a hard drive?

HOw was the claim process, what steps did you have to go through?

Squaretrade has a 30% off all warranties today, so it would only cost me $12 for a three-year warranty on a Kingston SSD that I just bought. I figured it'd be easier than going through Kingston themselves although I must admit i'm not too familiar with Kingston's repair/replacement process.

But for those with a squaretrade warranty, did you just file a claim that your HD died, and they write you a check for the full amount of what you paid for the drive originally?

so you pay $12
they will refund the cost of the drive to you (since its not worth much)
minus $12

IF it is out of the manufacturer warranty period and within the squaretrade warrant period.

Shipping/handling/tax is not included in the payment back to you of course.

Tell us the details of the transaction to figure out if its worthwhile.

I bought a used 35 mm camera off EBay and a warranty from SquareTrade. The camera failed a couple weeks before the warranty expired. They reimbursed me for the full cost of the camera with very few questions. Great company!

microcenter does the same thing for anything with a replacement plan (HDDs, mobos, graphics cards, keyboards, monitors, pretty much everything except desktops, laptops, TVs, etc) except you get store credit in the form of a gift card.

yup for 10% at microcenter they will give you a warranty for full credit after manufacturer warranty expires to year 5.

so that ssd magically fails in 4 years and the 3 year is up - DARN you get the full cash back MINUS 10% towards a new ssd ;)
