Anyone ever use one of the knock-off Nintendo NES systems?

Am looking for a Nintendo NES console and while checking on Ebay I see lots of knock-off consoles.

Wondering if anyone has one and how they like it. Are they compat. with all the NES games?

Hmmm... I don't know about that. I remember playing with a Super Famicom (Japan version of SuperNES) back when I was a wee lass and that certainly looks familiar, but I don't know if you want to get a knock off like that... Is there a reason why you're getting a knock off, rather than the real thing?

Haven't been able to find one locally. Just came across these on ebay and they are new, instead of having to deal with one that has been possibly hammered to death. I remember what my brother used to do to the controllers. That is why I was asking here.

Well, controllers are practically indestructible. I would look for one of the actual nintendo-made top loading units.

I thought the Super NES were top load and the plain NES were side load?

There's a second revision NES that came out that was a top loader.

After DC'ing the NES, Nintendo did (and STILL DOES) make top-loading NES compatible consoles. They're ugly and cheaper build, but actually work. They used to sell them in KB Toys, I remember seeing them all the way up until just before the Cube.

interesting. i thought the only top-loading version of NES was in japan and asia. i was going to buy one when i was a kid but instead got the big gray box...

looks exactly like this

the red/white machine is much superior IMO.

From my understanding you don't need to use the "blow" trick to get the games to work.

With shipping that NES knock-off is $50... you can get an N64 for $20 at GameStop. I don't think it comes with controllers, but they can't cost you that much more.

I think the famicon is the japanese version of the nintendo console; it was just called the famicom. Made by the same company..
