Anyone ever use Dell tech support to replace a defective item

I'm working on some Dell Pentium 4 1.6 that is still under their warranty supposedly. The 256mb stick of DDR is just I'm pretty sure and I'm wondering if it's worth the hassle to call Dell. Would they require me to ship the system back or just the ram? I have a stick coming that I'm going to stick in it but I figure if it's under warranty, it would be nice of them to replace the bad stick.

I used them once for a hd that went bad in the first month. They wanted to have a tech come into my home and replace my hd:Q I said no way, give me the harddrive, I will install it ... then you have to mail the old one back. Pretty easy process, they airmailed me the new hd.

the quickest way to get a replacement part once you are sure you know what you need is to tell the guy on the phone you replaced it with a spare you had and it works fine. over 100 calls to dell and it has never failed me.

they'll usually ship you the part if its something easy to replace like ram or a fan. they might want the ram back. they didn't want my fan back.
