From what I understand, this is used in yoga and the like so it is kinda hippy-esque. I don't see why it wouldn't actually work and be beneficial. Your flushing water through your nostrils and sinus cavities, that's bound to flush some stuff out that you don't need in there.

I have no idea what the ear candles are. Something about smoke pulling out infection I'd guess?

No, it actually works.

Screw the neti pot though, just get a plastic water bottle with a sport top, fill it with salt water and squirt that mother up there.

You can buy them at most drug stores. I know my CVS carries a kit for about $15. I've heard from people who suffer from sinus problems, who swear by them. But I've heard the same thing from people into ear candles and I think that's a complete crock. It can't hurt to try but as another poster mentioned, you're basically paying for packaging and a tiny plastic dispenser. Just make your own at home. The solution you pay for at the store is nothing more than salt water.

I've poured salty water up my nose before, when I was a teen. Didn't do a thing for me.


edit: I just used a regular tea kettle.

Been there, done that. I just took antibiotics and regular old nasal spray. This still smacks of hippie BS to me.

I have been using NeilMed sinus rinse for about two years now. I moved to an area that is loaded with allergens and ended up with a nasty sinus infection. My doctor recommended I use it daily to prevent future infections. So far it has worked.

I've used one for a bit, in combination with steaming, when I've had sinus issues and needed a clear head for singing. An alternative (or addition) would be a saline nasal spray. Helps clean out the gunk that otherwise needs to ooze or get blown out. ew.

I used to work with an older guy who swore by it, but instead of a neti pot, he got some kind of special attachment for a Water Pik (or whatever those machines are called that squirt water to clean your teeth/braces/gums.) Basically pumped salt water up there full force. Makes my eyes water thinking about it.

I had no idea what to expect when I looked at that video, I thought, what they hell kind of fragrance thing are they making now. And the chick rams that thing up her nose and it starts pouring out the other end... HAHAHAHAHA OH man I'm dying here.
