heres my story. I first used one almost 10 years ago on my HP deskjet 500c. I followed the insrtuction to the letter and when I tried the cartridge the printouts were all the same color. Not only did I destroy my catridge but I nearly screwed up my printer.

I am sure the process has gotten better so I recently bought a refill kit for my HP deskjet 882. I havent used it yet as i am working up the courage. :) I know people who swear by it so I will give it another try soon. I am in the market for a printer that takes 4 cartridges so I can replace just the one color at a time but so far non have met my criterior. Good luck dude.

I've done a few without any major problems.

Minor problem - I'm one of those guys who fills a cup to the brim and then fights not to spill it on himself rather than just leaving it at a safe level. Did that with a cart once, made a mess of the inside of my printer, my hands and half a ream of paper it took until all the splatter got worked out. Don't overfill, you just end up wasting more ink (and paper, and time, and soap).

Haven't killed any carts or printers though :)

Works fine with my Epson 740. Work quickly, while the cartridge is being refilled, or else the print head can dry out.
If that happens, use some ammonia-based cleaner such as Windex & spray the small sponge that the print head rests on, when the power is off.
Let soak for an hour, then run the clean print head utility. Be prepared to go ahead and get a new cartridge after several refills, if required. The generic replacement cartridges have done fine also. Newer Epsons have a small ink sensor circuit in the cartridge. Don't know whether these can be refilled successfully.

May be a little OT, but where is the best place online to buy such products as inkjet refills and toner carts?

I usually go to Staples, but I'm sure I can find a better price. Any recommendations from the gallery?

Yes and it worked ok. Since I found megatoners.com though, I haven't used my refill kit in a while.

I've only used ink from two sources - one was a universal kit from Wal-Mart. While it worked, the colors were quite a bit different (red was still red, just a different shade). And I only got one and a half refills out of it :(

The other one was from Cinphi. I've not needed to buy a replacement yet since they gave me so much more ink than that universal kit to start with - and for the same price. They also supply different ink for different printers depending on what the specs call for. Their kit had good instructions, gloves (use them the first time anyway) and a HUGE bonus over the generic kit....

....4 syringes. While that may not seem like a big deal, it's a great time saver compared to filling one chamber, cleaning that syringe, filling the next, cleaning the syringe again, and so on. Each time you risk water contamination in the ink. With one per color you do it all at once, clean them and let them air dry.

Anyway, I had good experience with their kit. The universal one worked, theirs worked better (for me).

Cinphi if anyone's interested. Also have bulk ink in case you ever need 16OZ at once!
