anyone ever use a fan?

I bought a small 12 inch fan and just took the side of my case off. It lowers temps by around 8-10 degrees celcius and cools everythign inside. I am a college guy so the house is always noisy anyway so that is not an issue at all. Anyone else do this?

I did that for a while, but the buildup of dust became ridiculous. I realized a case with a good airflow does fine, though, and you don't have to clean it every week.

I just slightly adujst the fan in different directions every other day or so. That gets rid of the dust pretty much...I am thinking of modding both sides of the case with a 12 inch fan on each side. The sides would be a bit wide but it would cool great and look pretty cool. hmmmmm

I've got this really quiet room fan that I put behind my comp angling it perpendicular. It carries all the hot air away that the exhaust fans bring out, it works pretty well. And I just turn the fan off at night, versus the comp.

Long time ago my PSU fan died, caused computer to be unstable. Used 12in fan to blow into the PSU fan hole and it became stable again.

I do that now! Just ordered my new Kingwin case so I hope I don't have to do it anymore. It does keep things cool but I hear you about the dust buildup.

i've done that when i first tried overclokcing my old gf3 card. but not i can overclock that pos much higher by using a vga silencer. but yea, it was funny.

Yup, I wanted a classy black case with some blue lighting. I'm not into all these alien heads/eyes and tons of logos and whatnot on the case. Was about to get a Lian Li but did a tad more research and found the Kingwin and it is exactly what I was looking for.

You really shouldn't leave your case open. Cases are designed to keep electromagnetic radiation contained. Not that it's bad enough to make you sterile, although you never know, but it may cause interference with other electronic equipment. It's just not a good idea.

If you notice your monitor is flickering or twinging like it needs medication, it might be the magnetic field being generated by your new 12" fan...

I've had several ladies at work call me over to check on their display going out and they had a big honking deskfan next to it trying to stay cool...

Just an FYI...
