Anyone ever try weed removal with a soil auger or a core drill?

Any unorthodox, effective means of taking out deeply-rooted weeds?

Maybe even a section of 1.5" steel pipe with a sharpened end, hammered in, might do the trick too...

drilling the core - easy.

prying out the core - a real bitch depending on how your soil is.

if you're making your own welding a little handle and having a way to pop out the core easily would be nice

Forstner bit to remove core? Probably would work best in a hammer drill I'm guessing.

Or - make the core, and then cap the core with a cup-type part. It'll block water, sunlight, etc. from reaching the weed, and in a week or two everything underneath the cap should be toast. Hmm...

Get a simple weed removal tool that works well for dandelions and other weeds that I find

I have one that is about 8 inches long shaft with a 4 inch handle.

Yes, I have to bend over or get on my knees, but I can not justify getting something that is a pole that does the same thing at 5x the price.

I have one (see the other thread I started in H&G). The problem is that I can't always get a clean pull even after I stab it in like 6 times... and a broken taproot just means it'll come back in a few weeks.

2,4-D is illegal in my province and I don't quite want to start using glyphosate on my lawn unless absolutely necessary.

Man that kind of stinks. 2,4-D is a staple around here. No better way to kill broad leaf weeds without killing your grass.

If ya want I could probably send ya a bottle of concentrate. I won't tell if you don't...
