Anyone ever try to rebuild their own notebook batteries?

Someone said on this forum that it was dangerous. I'm just wondering what other people's experiences are like.

I have an Dell Inspiron battery that was holding a great charge like new, but now it drains to 85% and then suddent drops to 6%.
