Anyone ever tried the iPod over USB2? How fast was it?

ndee

Was it a lot slower then USB2? I think about getting a Notebook, the only problem with the Notebook I wanna get(probably a IBM), it doesn't have a Firewire connector.

TIA

With either the limiting speed will be the source/destination drive speeds.

Beyond that, why worry?

It's just because I've heard that USB2 has the capability of 480Mbps BUT it never reaches that speed(IIRC, the harddisk wasn't the limiting factor) and also IIRC, USB2 should be faster than Firewire but in real world conditions, it never is.

The one thing I have to deal with in using USB2 is that the ipod doesn't charge over USB2 (unless I just don't know the secret).

You are correct that USB2 tests slower than firewire, but I'd bet that the Ipod's drive can't sustain writes at USB2 throughput speeds, much less firewire.

the 3g iPod cannot, the iPod mini can charge over USB2. As for speed, it really doesn't make a difference, I choose to use USB2 cuz it charges my mini at the same time (my laptop has a 4pin unpowered firewire port, which apple neglected to include an adaptor like they did in the 3rd gen iPod, luckily I kept the convertor when i sold my old 3rd gen)

12mbps IIRC

No wonder why my plextor px-708uf can only burn 4x for a normal cd. thx for the info.

Yup, USB 1.1 is ass slow.

Pick up a USB2 PCI card & let that drive stretch it's legs.
