Anyone ever tried a "Prepaid" Cell Phone?

I live in AL and my sister and her family from Alaska are visiting for 4 months. We need a cheap cell phone solution with as many minutes as possible but it's more important just to "have a phone". Anyone here have any comments?

I did a couple years ago..my sister bought it for me. The phone was crap..but it was a cell phone. And at the time...it was so cool and new to have one of those that I didn't care how crappy the phone looked. It's good if you don't want to commit to a year long contract for a real cell phone plan.

Sensible parents in the UK give their kids pre-pay ones so that they don't have to re-mortgage to pay their call bills at the end of the month.

Very sensible parents tell their kids to just use the landline to waste all evening chatting to their friends because it's now like 6p an hour.

pre pay phones are ace. i always run out of credit though and don't have any when i really need it

I had a Verizon prepay back right before and around the rollout of the digital services. Was allright. Nice not to worry about a bill.

My mom uses a prepaid t-mobile and is really happy with it.
