Anyone ever take aprt their Z560's?

Yeah ive taken apart my dead z560 sub, I saw the blown up fuse and can fix that easy enough but I want to use it for something else and I was wondering what that huge copper coil type thing is, any help would be great. I also would like to know how I can hook it up to DC instead of ac, is it just as simple as cutting out the convertor if it has one and wiring it there?
