Anyone ever signed up for one of the Comcast "buys your dish" offers?

I got one of their offers in the mail the other day and it looks really tempting, especially since I just bought a HDTV compatible set. Has anyone ever gone for one of their "we pay you to switch" offers? Do they *actually* take your old satellite equipment? (according to the offer, they "may" take it)

From the terms of their promotional offer, looks like I can get digital cable + their PVR + HDTV for $15-25 less per month then I am currently paying for DirecTV and Tivo.

Adelphia has a similar deal but I called yesterday and they said that the bargain disappears after December and it will cost as much as Direct TV.

Hmm, such helpful replies. 🙂

So I did some more research, and found stories both ways on some other forums - half the time the comcast guy showed up and wanted to see either a dish or your bill, half the time apparently they actually walk out with your receiver. (sounds odd, but it's a pretty aggressive war the two have with each other)

Anyway, I called DTV to cancel and of course get transferred to their retention dept, and they ask why I'm switching which is price, and the woman is like "Well what are they offering you?" to which I say "a high definition DVR for $35 a month" ... the woman is like "well you can always get our high definition DVR for $999, and I can offer you $150 off..."

How do they say that with a straight face?

I went on the ditch the dish program with comcast, the deal is they take 25 bucks a month off until the 400.00 or whatever they are offering is paid off. I went with it because in my area, I could not get a good satellite signal if the wind blew, it rained, or if the temperature changed more than 5 degrees.

It's all great til you come home turn it on and find nothing but snow.

Had a family member switch over to the HDTV offer for 12 months contract. Not a bad deal but you still have to deal with the cable company.

They did take the recievers from him but didn't touch the dishes on the roof.
