I have a somewhat beat up car. I dont want to smog it, go through the trouble of selling it because its hassle.... :)

Anyone ever sold their car to one of those dismantlers? I was curious how much you got for it? I mean, mines still drives etc...but its not worth it to me to go get it smogged, deal with potential buyers etc...but i do want the money haha...just checking if the other "alternative" is worth it?

I wouldn't expect to get more than a few hundred for the car (even if it still runs). You could try and donate the vehicle to a charity and get a tax write off not sure if you'll get a lot maybe a grand if its in good shape.

You could also try and just sell the vehicle to someone in the recycler or whatever just tell them that it needs work and won't pass smog (so they don't think you're trying to rip them off). My brothers friend sold his wrecked CRX for $1500 to some guy in the recycler.

Yeah a couple hundred at the very most and if its a really common car at the yard maybe not even that much. Your lucky it runs. If they have to come and pick it up you may even have to pay to have it hauled off. Thats how I ended up with a beater 81 plymouth horizan. It broke down in my driveway and the junkyard wanted $30 just to come and get it so I told her I would take it for free. Fixed it and drove it for a year.

The boneyards in my state will give you nothing, they will just provide the tow.

get on a forum for corollas, and go to the buy/sell section, and part out the car to people there. If you play your cards right, you could probably get more money parting it out than if you sold the car outright. Then when you're done and left with a shell of a car, then give it to the junkyard, and buy something pretty with your dollar.

We had a 1986(?) Cutlass Sierra that ran most of the time, but it was a third car so my pops didn't want to pay the insurance on it.
He took it to a scrap yard (I think) and only got about 50 bucks for it... I always figured he could sell to a teenager for a couple hundred at leats, but he just wanted to get rid of it.

You will be lucky to get $35 and a free tow. You may not even get the $35. They really don't care what you want.

You'll be lucky to get 50 bucks.

I'd never sell a car to a junkyard.

well in a way I guess since it was destroyed in an accident and the insurance company just had it junked because it wasn't worth it

We sold our "still running but the body was completely shot" Plymouth Volare stationwagon to a local wrecker. We got nearly $100 for it.

I saw them yanking the slant6/904 auto out of it the next day. LOL.

It had nearly 300,000 KMs on it and burned oil but ran like a champ. The tranny was rebuilt about 3 years before.

I've sold two to junk yards. The first one I threw a rod on it and didn't feel like rebuilding, I got $100 for it. The second the transmission was going back and reverse had stopped working I called around and found a place that gave me $300 for it. The first one I sold to the first place that said they would take it, the second time I called around. The offers varied a lot so if your going to do it call a lot of places and see what they offer.
