I got a pioneer dvd drive for xmas. Just getting around to installing everything and when I put a cdrom in it to install windows it emits a rapid "grinding" sound. I threw in my old pioneer dvd drive from my other pc and it works fine.
Just wandered if it's better to do the online RMA or just call and talk to one of their csr's? Also, do they cross ship? I'd like to get it asap and I was hoping they would go ahead and ship one.
BTW what happens to the shipping charges? Do they make you pay shipping on the replacement item?

Most likely they won't cross ship, you'll pay for any return shipping but with Newegg its easy to get an RMA# unlike so many other places.

I've done it three times. Once I called the other two times I used their on-line thingy. Calling is of course faster but the on-line thingy is usually answered in a couple of hours. If you want them to cross-ship you'll have to call them, they won't do it for CPU's but they should do it on everything else. They'll pay shipping for the new drive, you have to pay to ship the old one back.

I've done it online many times. If they don't have the replacement drive in stock, then they're willing to refund you your shipping money. They won't cross ship; they have to check that your drive is actually dead.

I do not believe they actually check. Or it might depend on what it is. I bought a bunch of kk266 Mobos from them, and built some computers, but one would reboot for no reason. I switched out everything but the mobo, so I assumed that was what it was. I set up an online RMA, then sent it back and got another one. The new one did the same thing. I assumed I was not that unlucky, and after about 2 more days traced it to a bad ATX connector on the Power Supply. If you wiggled it just the smallest amount, it would reset the computer. Switched it out, now no probs.

Yea, they probably don't check. Every time I send something back I get the credit right away
