anyway, my HD497's just died. the left earphone has no sound.
good thing it has a 2 year warranty. i've had it for a little over a year.

I went and did their online RMA process, but it was VERY uninformative.

do I need to send in the receipt?
do I just send in the headphones, or the cable and adapter too?
how quickly do they process?
do they repair or send a new set?

UPDATE:
WTF? They just received my HD497's and now the website update says "Estimate - Customer will be charged for repair?"
WTF kinda RMA service is that? I barely used them and treated them respectfully all the time, and the left driver just decides to die out on me. Now they want to charge me for repair???

i had a pair of HD 495 silvers. one side started buzzing whenever there was bass.

they sent me a new set after i sent my old ones to them.

i can't remember what info i sent them, it was a while back. probably my receipt. IIRC, it was a fairly painless process.

btw, i did the whole process via telephone.

I have a pair of 580's that had been worn out w/ the ear pads and the foam that pads the band portion. If I remember correctly I RMA'd to Sennheiser through the website as well. They had me send the headphones in and then one of their customer service people e-mailed me with an estimate on what the repairs would be. The 580s were pretty old so I guess they weren't under warranty any more, in any case I didn't ask if they were.

I just told them to repair it and it cost me like $25 for new pads and they replaced the jack with a "gold plated" one since its better for "free" and they sent the headphones back to me. This was probably two years ago almost so I don't remember all the details. But if you have more questions, I could try to answer them. Their customer service people seemed pretty nice when I called on the phone and they answered emails quickly, at least as much as I remember.

thanks for the reply.
but here's the deal.

I used, not abused the headphones. no sign of abnormal wear.
yes, i probably rolled over the cable a few times on my computer chair.
also yanked the detachable cable a few times when it got caught on something.

there is a 2 year warranty on them. i had them for a little over a year.

i don't see why i have to pay for a defective driver.
