My MS Wheel Mouse Optical seems to have unceremoniously died...or at least the right mouse button has. It's about 10 months old - too late for the Staples in-store warranty but hopefully not too late for MS to do something about it.

Anyone have possible fixes or know how the RMA thing will go up in Canada?

I had an adventure warrantying my original Intellimouse Explorer from them. I phoned them up gave told them what's wrong, told them the part #, they gave me a case # from which I can check the status on the internet. After a couple of weeks I checked my status on the internet and for some reason it was cancelled. So I phoned them up and they told me that the part number i gave them had expired so they didn't send me a replacement. I was pissed and couldn't understand what they meant. I eventually figured it out and the problem was that they had replaced the original Intellimouse Explorer with the new version 3.0, which had a different part number. I couldn't believe that they couldn't figure out to just send me the 3.0 version instead of cancelling my case because they no longer made the original Intellimouse Explorer. Like it's so obvious what the solution was, I was dumbfounded. I actually had to phone them back to tell them to send me the 3.0 version. What a bunch of idiots they have in their RMA department.

I've had two good experiences with them. My original Intellimouse Explorer's cable got wonky, so they replaced it with the new higher frequency one. That one's mouse button got all sticky and flaky, so they have now sent me the latest version one. Both arrived within a week of the call.

Talk about no hassle returns! Just called MS today at 1-800-933-4750 and was automatically redirected to a Microsoft Canada line. Selected the option to speak to a sales/support representative and only had to tell him the problem, my name and my Wheel Mouse Optical's product number to get the RMA approved.

Other notes: It's expected to be here within 2-5 days, shipped by Purolator. I was directed to go to http://status.microsoft.upgrade.com at any time to check on the status of my order using my Order #. Because it was within the 2 year warranty, it's a free RMA and I do not even have to send the mouse back.

Guess I'll soon be joining the horde of people on their 2nd MS mouse. If only their quality assurance was as good as their support personnel!
