Anyone ever request a shipping refund from a merchant because FedEx was late?

About half the time, FedEx is a day late delivering to my house. My package is usually sitting in the sort facility in the next county on the day it is scheduled to be delivered. I just checked their web site and even home delivery shipments are guaranteed to residential addresses (Link).

The claim must be filed by the shipper. Has anyone had any luck with contacting a merchant and requesting a refund of shipping charges? I bought from Compgeeks this time.

I think he knows that.. it's just that it's a requirement the shipper makes the claim. I guess the shipper would only be inclined to do that if there's low customer satisfaction and its affecting their business.

It's a tough process it seems... fedex would have to reimburse the shipper first (assuming)... then they credit you after. A big hassle for being 1 day late. This is just ground service where it's anywhere from 3-7 business days right ? Not something specific like 1 or 2 day ?

how is this the sellers fault again? Maybe i am missing it.

have i ever contacted a shipper to have them claim a refund? not when i get the item a day late or even 2. why? because i am not a little whinny b!tch.

only time i bother the shipper for a refund is when i DO not get the item within a week of due. Even then you may have a hard time.

Suck it up. you well get the item a day or two late. no big deal.

edit: way to early in the morning.

Once, I paid for 2 day but it came in 3. I requested a shipping refund from the retailer - After about 2 weeks (they had to file it) they refunded 1/2 of the shipping to me because "thats what they get back from the shipper"

edit: its not the sellers fault, but a reciever of a package cannot request a refund from the shipper(fedex/ups), the sender has to request it.

It's not. I've had this happen a couple of times. The asshats at UPS and Fedex will not make a shipment on time (with 1-day and 2-day, where a specified delivery date is agreed upon). Both times this happened to me, I spoke to a CSR at Fedex or UPS and they agreed to refund the shipping charges, but to the company that shipped it. As a result, I had to go to the company I ordered from to have them refund the shipping charges (since they already got a refund from UPS/Fedex).

OP, I did this once with Tech Depot and once with Newegg. Both times they willingly obliged, just tell them the situation, they should help you out.

It's a PIA to get the $ back. See, your not the person paying the shipping co., the vendor is. So when the refund is made, the vendor gets refunded for the shipping charges. Then you have to goto them, possible after the refund is in hand, and get your $ from them.

PIA, but possible.

watch out, there might be a way around it for the vendors, or if they give a special on shipping. ones that i can easily think off the top of my head is newegg with their free shipping, and ZZF with the $.50 2day air.

id imagine if it took too long and you requested a credit that they wont give you anything back because they can just say that the shipping was free or $.50, though you paid the going rate for it.

It is somewhat of a big deal because I asked someone to accept the delivery for me and then in the middle of the day I realize it is probably not going to come and it turns out to be a waste of time.

They are running a business and if they give me a scheduled delivery date, they should be able to keep it.

It happens with all FedEx 2nd Day Air too. Sometimes it will be out on a truck and have the truck go back to the depot without making a delivery attempt.

i get a bunch of people requesting refunds for something that fedex didnt deliver in the promised time. is it our fault that the package was late. we did everything within our powers to get the package out as promised. call fedex and take it up with them, leave us alone.

They can't get a refund on shipping through Fedex. The company that sends the package out has to request the refund, so the customer has to contact the vendor to get the process started. Part of doing business.

fedex usually delivers on time or ahead of schedule for me, *shrugs*
I would imagine it's a pain in the ass to try to get the refund, so unless you have a good reason too (expensive shipping cost or special delivery), i would just sit on it.

Remind me to never buy from your business...

I've never tried, but understand your frustration. I just had a package delivered via FeD Ex. I was in my city on Friday, but since it wasn't scheduled to be delivered until Tuesday they held it for 2 business days + the weekend. I don't know that it's worth trying to get $ back from the sender.

In the reverse, I had shipped three packages across country via Fed Ex. I intended them to go ground, however, did not indicate the method on the shipping documents at all.

Fed Ex set them up as next day air. By the time I realized the error, (when I saw the shipping documents in the afternoon) FedEx could not slow down the packages.

People in MA, NY and FLa got their MB/CPU combos the next day; FedEx only charged me for the Ground delivery costs.
