Anyone ever read the book Middlemarch?

This is the last book I have to read over the summer. So far, I've read Dune and East of Eden, two quality books. However, Middlemarch has bored me to tears over the first 50 pages. Does it get any better, or should I just rely on our old buddy Cliff (or pinkmonkey or whatever)? For those who haven't read this book, it is one of those old 19th century works that use words not commonly understood today and, even worse, moves extremly slowly.
