Anyone ever purchased moissanite diamonds?

A week ago i made a post regarding studs. Well, my gf wants a pair of diamond earrings, but i just dont wanna spend $300 for some little diamonds. so someone suggested i look at moissanite diamonds. why no one has ever heard of it baffles me. prices are insanely cheaper but i'm afraid they may look fake. i would like to know if there's a store tat i can go to in order to check them out before i buy them.

Moissanite was first discovered in a meteor about 2 years ago. Quite quickly a method of manufacturing moissanite was found (since moissanite isn't native to Earth, we can't just mine it). I still haven't seen it in a store, but my wife wants some since it is so pretty (we've only seen them on TV news - but they are supposedly much more sparkly than a diamond).

For something so new, why are you surprized that few people have heard of it?

Vincent: A moissanite is an artifical diamon Lincoln. It is Micky-Mouse, mate. Spurious. Not genuine. And it is worth... fsck all.

the properties of moissanite are supposed to be so close to genunine diamonds that many jewelers are being fooled. They test positive on the machines that test diamond authenticity. They are a LOT cheaper and supposedly have better brilliance and fire then a genuine diamond.

However....

they will never be better than an I-L in color. That bothers me, personally. I do not like the slightest tint of yellow (or any color for that matter) in my diamonds and would never consider owning less than an H in color.

Besides... the are NOT diamonds. No matter how close, or almost or just like diamonds they are, there is one thing they are not and that is GENUINE diamonds.

🙂

No woman that talks about how great diamonds are have NOTHING to say to men and their desire for toys.

sheesh, at least with toys you can do more than just look at them. the whole diamond industry and how they get women to tie their self worth to them really annoys me.

IT'S JUST A FANCY ROCK.

There are machines now that can create diamonds for mere dollars per karat. It will take a couple years for these machines to start manufacturing in bulk, but, soon, it will happen.

Men have toys, women have diamonds. Most women cannot understand the need for souped up fancy cars. they all get us from point A to point B. If money is tight and diamonds are a super luxury then I can see your point. But if someone is going to all the trouble of purchasing something like a diamond, then should it not be the real thing and the best quality?

To each his own. My b/f is super into engine stuff. He owns a peterbuilt, two ford f350's a jeep and a 'classic' cadillac. To me that is all frivilious. My brother is serious into stereo equipment. He spends more on that then most ppl spend on a brand new car. Again, to me that is uninteresting. But I like diamonds. Not any and every. But I like 'em and own quite a few impressive ones.

To each his own.

Yes.

I bought my wife a moissanite pendant. Its about a carat and cost something like $400.

I know quite a bit about moissanite because I invested in companies that deal in them, Cree Research and Charles and Colvard.

They look like diamonds because they aren't glassy like CZ but if you get something larger than a carat, it will look yellowish.

i agree, but why is it every time i happen to surf by Life channel or listen in on various womens "conversations" they are always b1tching and moaning about how men are such BOYS because they love their toys.

again, as you say to each his own, but women b1tch and moan about mens toys a lot considering how many of them are soo attached to things that are equally useless in their partners eyes.

Yes. You can't see the yellowness below a carat visually.

My ex-boss bought his wife a 2 carat ring and it looks yellowish though it looks impressive.

Here is a pic I just took.

Sorry about the size. My 2 main PCs are dead and I don't have the right software in my lappy to shrink the pic.

It's hard to tell but there is no tinge of yellow at all with the size I bought. It reflects back white. It doesn't look glassy either. Looks real to me.

The third time I've made this offer:

I'll bet anyone (any one single person, that is) $1,000 that five years from now manufactured diamonds will have made no appreciable impact in the diamond market whatsoever.

Any takers?

There are machines now that can manufacture images that look exactly like a Van Gogh, at pennies per copy. I think one of them is sitting right next to YOU! In fact these machines have been around for years. So that means a genuine Van Gogh is worthless right?

But women will botch and moan about anything anyway... it is the nature of the beast!

Might just be the gold in the background messing with your perception. Meh.

btw, if your laptop is on windows XP, you can get an XP powertoy to shrink images. very easy, quick, and convenient. google it.
