Then you should be fine, assuming it's a legit key.

I learned there are actually websites that do this. CJS Keys is a store that stocks thousands of legitimate copies of games, and simply sells the keys online for damn cheap. You can buy Battlefield 3 for $39.99. If you look at the Steam section, they have Space Marine for £17.99, Dead Island for £21.99, and Deus Ex: HR for £22.99, among others. They seem sketchy at first, but apparently they've been around for quite a while, and they get favorable reviews.

Not an advertisement, I don't work for them, but it was on the front page of Reddit today and I thought it was interesting.

And yeah, they have keys for North America.

Edit: This is what was posted on Reddit. I guess it was mostly intended to stir up hype for BF3, but you can see it's from CJS Keys:

They only seem sketchy because you don't realise that people in the UK can get boxed copies of those games for those prices.
I personally can buy Space Marine right now for £17.99 from Amazon.co.uk, DE:HR for under £20 from Amazon.
UK boxed game prices are cheap.

Hardly. There are legitimate reasons fo rnot wanting to be restricted by Valve's region locking system, including things like getting copies of games before they are otherwise released in your territory (where publishers have a retarded delay between releasing games in different countries, or getting uncensored versions of games (which SHOULD BE legitimately available via at least some means) where your country has censorship. Germans especially have problems with this. Websites like Amazon.de will sell import copies of censored games, but Steam only has the censored German verisons available, even though people should be able to legally buy uncensored versions.

all my games on steam are from 3rd parties. CJS keys is probably the most popular cd key store, but their "auto-key" system is irritating, and support is abysmal (based on my experiences). I would recommend cdkeysdiscount, and intkeys. I've used them many times, and have used russian keys also. They both have live support in many languages. Only a handful of keys may be region locked or are russian keys, these stores usually carry both versions (regular and foreign keys).

Often. The only problem I usually have is that sometimes the keys don't work immediately as I have to wait until the game is released in my region (Hungary).

I usually buy scanned codes. Never got scammed before. Then again I choose sites that have many followers on Facebook and that are fairly popular on forums.

Well, I guess it's better if you don't buy too many codes at once, e.g., 50 Windows 7 activation codes or 100x Rage codes.

AKA it never happened to me so I have yet to see a genuine case...

Negative. I have seen many cases of people who claim to have been wrongly banned who have been called out and found to be liars. I have never seen a VAC ban that wasn't correct.

By "seen" you mean you were actually on-site?

Anyway I was the only the only user of the pc in question, didn't move it around to lan parties, BIOS locked etc. As far as cheating goes, you'll just have to accept my word that I didn't hack the game. My experience has taught me that letting one company dominate the anti-cheating system in the industry is a very foolish thing.
