prior to about 2 weeks ago I didn't even really consider these cars at all. well i shouldn't say i didn't consider them, but it was pretty much a total afterthought.

now there is one car i'm interested in that is a CPO car. its a 2008 infiniti g37. so the CPO part would give me an additional warranty until september 2014 or 100k miles, whichever is first, but it will definitely be september 2014 since there are only 20k miles on it.

now they told me they can sell it to me non-CPO for $900 less. so basically i'm paying $900 for the CPO warranty that comes with the car. additionally, if I weren't to get it CPO, it would still have gone through the whole CPO process to become a CPO car.

so i guess what i'm wondering from people is if they have ever gotten a CPO car and if so, what was their experience with that portion of it. is it even worth it at all? does it help the resale value or anything?

thanks ... and wow i said CPO a lot

CPO!

$900 isn't horrible for 2.5 years I guess but you could check with your auto insurer and see what they offer. Check with Infinitj too if this is a dealer CPO and not mfr.

$900 is pretty decent for a CPO that adds 2.5 years on as a factory warranty. I think I may have paid an extra $1300 or 3 year/100K

I went CPO with my Audi A4 when I first got it ... did not use it a whole lot, but it did let me complain about cosmetic issues, haha.

Is that bumper to bumper or powertrain only? If B2B, more than likely worth it. If powertrain...eh....I *think* Infiniti has a decent motor/transmission reputation so it's probably not as important as a German or domestic vehicle. Resale wise, it's not enough of a consideration to make one way or the other.

I've gotten this ...

Only Infiniti models less than four years old and with under 60,000 miles qualify for the program, and then they must pass a rigorous inspection. So when you take delivery, your Certified Pre-Owned Infiniti includes a 72-month/100,000 total-vehicle-mile warranty, roadside assistance, trip interruption benefits and towing assistance.

and this...

Warranty Coverage: The Infiniti Certified Pre-Owned Vehicle Limited Warranty extends the basic coverage of the Infiniti new vehicle limited warranty (inclusive of powertrain coverage) to 72 months from the original in-service date of the vehicle or 100,000 total miles on the odometer, whichever occurs first.

unless i'm just fucking blind, i cant find the exact list of what all is covered here.

http://www.infinitiusa.com/pre-owned/overview

but ill try out my google-fu when i get home tonight.

That's got to be a dealer CPO. It soundsl ike it's not a true Infiniti CPO because the warranty should last for more years.

He's quoting infinitiusa.com, I highly doubt any infiniti dealer will try to sell you a "Dealer CPO," it's the real thing. 6 years / 100k, that's the norm.

The answer the OPs question, my dad bought a BMW CPO (550i). To say the least, it's been a lifesaver. The car is on the shop right now with 64k and they're fixing 3 oil leaks (new valve cover gasket and I don't remember the other two). Last year the whole engine wiring harness was replaced. But that speaks a lot more to BMW's build quality than the warranty. For $900, I think it's a no brainier just for the peace of mind.

Here's the link to the terms: https://owners.infinitiusa.com/iowners/content/warranty/INFINITI_CPO_limited_warranty_coverage.pdf

yea it's infiniti CPO, i'm 100% positive about that, since i saw the car listed through their website as well heh.

i've owned 2 european cars (VW's) and i'm done with euro cars heh. i always had wanted a BMW, but i passed this time. they are nice cars and i like it a lot, but my experience with them is they just start to get issues as miles are put on em, around the mileage you are talking about with your dads. sure, it's subjective and anecdotal in my part, but i'm not the only one who's had these problems. actually everyone i know who has a BMW said not to get one unless you have some sort of warranty with it, and to get rid of it once the warranty is up heh.

but i'm going japanese this time, and i've really read nothing but good things about the g37. my current car is up for sale and if i can get the $8k i'm asking, which i tihnk i can, im definitely going to get this car, if they don't sell it before then. i may go pick it up tihs weekend regardless of selling my car cause i have the cash to cover it meanwhile.

thanks for the stories/opinions you all have given as well.

my dad got a CPO RL early last year, but i think that only added 1 year/10k miles. it was 23kOTD for a 2008 with 50k miles

In addition to the extended warranty CPO gives you more leverage when you are arguing for non-covered items.
