Earth 2150 didn't get half the credit it deserved. It brought many new ideas to to the table such as customizing vehicles and keeping supply lines open during battle. Where it exceled was lan play. I must have lan partied this game into oblivion. At least 30-50 hours over a couple years worth of lan parties.

I tried playing vs other people on earthnet but it didnt end well lol, i got swarmed with minelayers in the first 10 minutes when i was trying to research lasers. Those germans are vicious, even on campy maps i got owned from underground.

Most of my fun came from playing vs AI and using the map editor. The AI was pretty good if given unlimited resources to play with, especially in vanilla 2150 before bombers got a proper ground based counter in moon project.

What about the sequel 2160?

It was terribad, strayed too far from what they had accomplished with 2150 instead of building on it.

that was a great game. customizable units, reusable research, units and resources. looked quite good for its time as well. the sound was awful in that game though. they really messed up there and imo it took a lot away from the enjoyment.

Awesome Game. So many innovations that haven't been repeated. Instead we've regressed back to 1998 gameplay with Starcraft 2 and Warhammer and all that garbage. Shameful how the simpler, dumber clickfest strategy games have triumphed over those which actually required thinking.

The underground tunnel system is still unrivaled today. You could literally have an army sitting beneath your enemies base waiting for the time to strike. You could control the weather and create a storm above your enemies base to screw up their radar. A full research and tech tree to actually create your own units that are tailored to the strategy you want to implement.

The underground tunnel becomes ridiculous after a while lol. Someone would create an elevator, set new units to go down it automatically, set the build to unlimited and then just chill. While the game is going on up above....tons and tons of units are just filling the space below. Next thing you know...3 or 4 elevators pop up around your base and you get absolutely swarmed! :D

After that, we started making custom maps that blocked all the underground stuff. In addition, we created "no rush" rules and neutral party rules for "mining bases". We had tons of fun with that game.

Unfortunately, online it kinda sucked because even back then everyone was "zerg rushing" for quick kills. This is why I refuse to play any RTS online. Lan party FTW.

The music or just the sound in general? I found it pretty good, music would change when you are under attack or if it changed from day to night time etc which you dont see very often.

Yeah its a shame it didnt take off in a big way, i would like to say theres not enough difference in RTS games today but difference seems to mean either not fun at all or totally dumbed down to a lot of developers.

I remember reading a review of it in pc gamer and playing the demo, they said you could turn the lights on/off on your units... So in theory you could wait until night then drive into your enemies base with the lights off and surprise him, this game had so much cool stuff. Mounting turrets and shields on structures as well and a very well thought out easy to use UI to boot, all that complexity is useless without a good UI which it has.

music was alright. the battle audio however was very muffled.
