The Scythe Ninja is pretty easy to install, but i am still kinda worried because of how massive the ninja is and the clips.

Has anyone sucessfully installed it onto a naked A64 processor?

Would I have to do any other mods on my motherboard to make sure there is good contact with the CPU?

CPU: Opteron 165
Motherboard: DFI NF4 Ultra-D

Thanks.

My worry is will it seat itself all the way down on the processor and even touch it at all with IHS removed? Second if it does touch will it apply enough pressure not to roll over on itself and conduct heat proper?

Maybe you should have investigated heat sinks before removing spreader?:) I know Thermalrights will be alright but I'm not familiar with that design.

Mass is not a problem unless again it rolls to the side when upright. Apply enough pressure is critcal to insure this does not happen.

Your worries are non worries!
Alot of people have mounted the Ninja on an A64 chip...

whats important for you to knopw is that YES the Ninja is compatable with your chip!!
Follow the enclosed directions and you will be fine!!

CPU Clock Speed Limit:

This product is not recommended to use with a high CPU frequency under the fanless mode. If you plan to use this item under fanless mode, your CPU load should be limited to low-middle loading. For high-end usage, we recommend to use an optional 120mm fan. Please use this product at your own risk.

NCU-1000 Fanless CPU Cooler "ZEN" series
Q: Does NCU-1000 work for AMD chip?
A: Unfortunately, the answer is No. Due to heat volume generated from AMD chip & its different socket design, NCU-1000 cannot be installed for AMD chip. NOTE: NCU-2000 , the successor model, IS compatible with Socket 754 for AMD as well as 478 for P4 platform. NCU-2005 is compatible with LG775 Socket, the latest chipset from intel.

Q: I installed the heatsink correctly, but my idle temperature is high.. what's wrong?
A: Please check to make sure your heatsink is securely installed. Touch the top of heatsink (fin) to make sure the heatsink is warm (this is to make sure the working fluid is circulating throughout the heatsink). Make sure to use thermal compound for both CPU die as well as to the copper plate. The ideal idle temperature should be around 35-40C.

WTF ^ PR man for Scythe?

Taking off IHS loses you 1-2mm height. If spings cannot be adjusted to account for this loss the HS will sit up there too loose.

Those are not issues that I have read about in any other forums concerning the Ninja and that chipset or mobo!

The contents of the box:

Ninja Heatpipe
LGA775 and Socket 754/939/940 fastening brackets
Plastic frame for mounting the cooler on Socket 478
Wire braces to fasten a 120mm fan on the cooler?s heatsink
Two long spring-loaded screws for mounting the cooler on Socket 754/939/940
A back-plate and a spanner to fasten it to the mainboard?s reverse side
1 gram of silicone-based thermal paste
Installation Guide in English and Japanese
The box comes with directions as well as anything you need to install the Ninja!!
A 120mm fan is not included among the accessories ? the manufacturer warns you about that on the face side of the box.

As for the fastening, a pair of flexible clips are already attached to the cooler, so you only have to put the fastening frame on the mainboard:

If you go to this URL it will give you black and white pictures installing on your chipset...good luck!!

Rofl, Xbit didn't install the Ninja on a naked chip, so that doesn't serve as confirmation it will work if someone pops their lid and wants to use it.

I didn't actually remove the IHS yet...

I was just wondering if the heatsink would make proper contact with the IHS off w/o any other modding.

JEDI: While you've provided a lot of valuable information, none of it is referencing to a naked chip and what type of contact the Scythe may have. My original concerns still stand.
