We'll i just received $1500 for free and i guess i could spend it on my 96' honda accord. I want to make this car faster, it is so damn slow. What could i do to the car to make it faster, I'm talking specifics here. Like what parts, model #'s, etc. The cosmetics already look good, i have the windows tinted, clear taillights, 17" rims. I also have a pretty good audio system in there (infinity comps, shiva subs, pioneer hu). I'm lookin at engine modifications that i can do, i really don't know jack about this kinda stuff either so please be specific.

I would buy $1,500 in gas....that'll allow me to go many more places, not as fast, but just as good

First things to do is increase airflow. So you need a new exhaust system( new cat-back system free flow mufflers) ,headers, K&N filters. Second is
to replace the Spark plugs with a peformance one NGK platinums and also replace the spark plug wires. Last is tune-up and oil change ( add an additive
like good 'ol Duralube or something) If you have more money, you can have a port and polish job for even more airflow..

How many headers, mufflers, air filters, and mufflers are there on a 4 cylinder accord, anyway? Apparently, there's at least 2 of each, by your post.

Plugs and wires will NOT make your car faster.

Tune-up and oil change is the FIRST thing you should do, not the last.

Don't put any additives in your oil, the engine was meant to be lubricated with motor oil, not teflon.

I think the best you can do with 1500 is maybe NOS.

At anyrate, 4 banger accords are hecka slow, I wouldn't bother trying to make it faster. Save the money for a rainy day or something.

You can buy yourself a H22...and then keep it in your garage till you can afford to get it installed. :D

Nah, go for a Apexi N1, then some DC Sports 4-2-1 headers, a Iceman CAI, and maybe some Tokiko Blue's (shocks, I probably spelled it wrong too). That should be all you'll need. Save the extra for a body kit, or maybe a carbon fiber hood. :)

IMO, H/I/E mods are hecka overrated. Ran against a 4 banger accord with typical header, intake, exhaust mods at the street races. Still beat him in a bone stock prizm.

The only sure fire way to make lots more power is a bigger/better engine, turbo/supercharger or nitrous.

a stock Prizm? afaik they use Corolla's 7afe engine, which is like 110 hp max. unless you have the Prizm Gsi which I haven't seen much around. I think they make like 130.
still, i4 accord makes at least 130.

A nice exhaust system isn't going to help a 4 banger in any way. Exhaust systems are needed for big engines that produce a lot of exhause, i.e. V8's, twin turbo Supra's, not little hatchbacks and commuter cars.

You've siad it. That car could not go very fast except with a turbo. And with $1500 you're 1/3 of the budget.

Muscle cars: Old tech pushrod V8 making 405 HP
Rice cars: High tech Honda Vtec engine making 150 HP (and ricers bragging how they have more HP per liter)

Don't waste your money on a turd. Save the money for a down payment on a car meant to go fast and is built to handle the stress of high torque and HP. Don't be a rice boy... gawd, you have clear tails? *PUKE*

clear taillights eh?
how creative (sarcasm intended).
now it looks like every other supped up car in town... yay!

with $1500, I also opt for saving it! :)
you can't do much with that thing you have right now... putting more money in it is pointless.

HP isn't everything...Old tech pushrod POS's are too heavy for racing today. Even tho i hate Honda's they have an awesome HP per liter ratio right up there with Ferrari. How about you get the fastest muscle car and i'll bring a Datsun 510 and meet you Laguna raceway? That little Dastun 510 would run laps around you. While in drag you spank me...but who wants to just drag anyways? all you do is Mash the gas and that's it....BORING!

you gotta look at their weight also. the accord is much heavier than a corolla or a prizm (same thing) haha...even if it has 130 horses...it's weight hinders its performance

2001 Chevrolet Prizm 4 Dr STD Sedan

Nothing special, but the car makes decent amounts of power and it's light.

Don't get me wrong, I used to drive a 4 banger accord. They are well built, reliable cars. Solid, comfortable and roomy, great daily drivers. But they are a long ways from being drag cars.

ok first off, my taillights aren't the altezza ricer lights. They are simple clear taillights. It looks very clean and professional, and very NONRICER/ASIAN, in my opinion. The car has a very sleek look to it, and looks nothing like a racing car or anything of the sort. And the spoiler is the factory one that comes with the car and its very low.

Unfortunately, horsepower is everything. Do you really think you could keep up with a Z06 corvette on a road track? Even if that little Datsun could get ahead, you'd be a mile behind in the straights and since the vette is a world class handler, you'd be toast in the corners. Today's muslce cars can handle very well. And in the real world, streets are straight. When have you been on a twisty highway? I never have. You lose.

Nowadays, man american cars such as the vettes and the camaros have much improved handling. The old argument imports vs. domestics is starting to waver since american made cars have much better handling these days.
