Im trying to install windows xp pro on my laptop....

the damn thing will not boot off a windows XP pro cd... Ive tried my backup copy and even the company corporate cd and it wont boot off either one.... I just booted off a cd and installed windows 2000 but I cant seem to get winxp to boot from the cd.... ideas?

You could always just do the floppy-boot thing and then pop the disc in. Kind of a pain in the ass, but it works.

The corporate Windows XP Pro CD that I use at the university is NOT a bootable CD. You need to install another version of Windows, boot up, and then start installing from inside Windows. So I'm not surprized that your corporate version won't boot.

I have never used a normal Windows XP Pro CD, so I cannot answer that half of your question.

If Win2K is already on there why don't you just install it from there?

And is it an upgrade or full cd?

The full cd has the capability to upgrade so it doesn't matter which one he has.

first off this is ATOT there are other forums here are there not?

Secondly, not all OS CDs are bootable you know? Maybe make a bootable DOS CD and boot from that (with CDROM support) then insert your XP CD and install.

Do NOT do any "upgrade" install. Surely a kiss of death, or at the very least a computer that runs sh!ttily. 🙂
